President Donald Trump left out a key detail this week when he outlined his plans for a massive missile and air defense shield over the continent: He can’t build it without Canada.

Ottawa has historically funded about 40 percent of NORAD investments, according to VanHerck, and is putting $38 billion into the command to add new radars in the north over the next two decades. Without those investments — and additional sensors that can peer over the North Pole — officials believe the U.S. will have trouble putting together a credible North American air defense.

The only country I could ever see striking Canada with missiles in our lifetimes is the US if they continue their slide to fascism. There is zero benefit for Canada in this scheme except appeasing the cult’s Dear Leader.

The very reason the Americans are a shit show is because Russia’s successful interference. Why does Russia want a weak U.S.? Because they plan to continue expanding.

Russia also wants our land. Only the bits we don’t care about very much though, up north, where there’s mineral wealth, offshore oil and a future major trading route. Much like eastern Ukraine and Crimea. “It’s basically already Russian anyway. Nobody will mind if we just take it.” /s

Fair point in terms of threats but I don’t see how a missile defense shield would help in any way in securing our arctic waterways from Russian icebreakers and submarines.

The threat of missiles hitting Ottawa lets the Russians be more aggressive in arctic waterways. Cold War negotiation.

Fucking no way Canada should spend money on this total grift. That being said, I am fine with Carney engaging with them on this if only to stall until the midterms and then until Trumps end of term. Stall, stall and more stall. We should do that on CUSMA and in fact in all talks with the yanks.

Well honestly this is very likely good news for him. Now, not taking over Canada is an actual national security threat…

I was gonna say that it sounds like we need a a stack of money from the US to do it. But then this would actually be a poison pill so no. 😂

We should charge them rent and a user’s fee. Fee to use our airspace. Per flying object they send over it.

Oh. And it’s only ever staffed by Canucks, and they’ve all got kill-switches; like actual power-off switches.

I really think I’m done with hosting non-commonwealth soldiers here. We’re not 2020 Greenland.

Maybe the world UN organization would come up with a method to tax any EMF radiation sent over one country by another for purposes of obtaining data? We now have the technology to detect and track this back to source.
