He also bulldozed homeless camps around the city, mostly under bridges, right before winter. Pittsburgh doesn’t have a huge homelessness issue, in large part because it gets too cold and most homeless people travel south. There weren’t issues with crime or violence or anything. He just wanted to appear “tough on crime” to try to appeal to centrist voters, and I believe maybe to make Pittsburgh more attractive for the GOP convention?
The police under him have also run rampant, with multiple corruption scandals. Yet they keep getting more funding? He went through 5 Chiefs in his term.
