Coming out as the philly pisser (I’m really sorry guys)
I would just like to apologize for pissing inside of the pit, I am 19 and me and vodka don’t mix very well, and in my fucked up state of mind I thought I could just piss on the floor and nobody would notice. Clearly not the case. I’m very sorry if I ruined the show for anyone as well. I would also like to say that I was not making racist ableist or r*pe jokes and any jokes I did make were from my stand up set which I have written down in my notes. I promise you guys this will not happen again and I would like to ask that you guys at least do not dox me or try to ruin my life, it was an honest mistake. As far as the jokes about me on Reddit, keep it coming you guys are hilarious. Feel free to continue flaming me in the comments, I can even keep giving you guys more pics of me and all that.
Also to the one guy I pissed on I am extremely sorry. As a previous recipient of having a drunk dude piss on you i understand it is extremely aggravating.
The deleted thread on here
The state of the band is pretty disgusting right now. People reportedly getting robbed at some venues, several different women writing SA experiences at different concerts of theirs, an admitted crowd killer showed up in the subreddit to brag the other week after punching a woman in the face and throwing a damn garbage can into the crowd. Most recently the band walked off after being pelted with a phone and glowsticks. Haven’t heard of anything insane happening at their Austin City Limits performance the other night yet.
Sucks that a group that I’ve just straight-up enjoyed the music of since 2014ish has attracted such memetic, look-at-me kids nowadays. Feel like such a boomer shaking my fists at younger generations, but the COVID lockup really fucked some of these children up etiquette-wise.
I always knew liking Death Grips was a little bit of a red flag to others, but with all of this happening, I feel like I have to say I’ve barely heard of them, at this point. Which is sad, to me. I’ve got some vinyl of their’s, I’ve got an Exmilitary shirt (that I don’t think I can wear in public anymore)…
Same thing happened to me with the Gorillaz. I loved them early on, when they were first on Toonami and shit, but their fan base just became so insufferable, I distanced myself from seeing the band. Dunno if I can go to a Death Grips show with a straight face anymore - IF they even decide to tour again. Big if.
jesus, guess i’m glad my friends had a good time at the show they went to
I got into them way late (earlier this year) but they quickly became my favorite band and have helped me through a super weird time in my life. It’s strange to me that some of the most viscerally raw, sincerely pained & haunted & powerful music I’ve heard has attracted such a memey & outright selfish and destructive fanbase, it seems so antithetical to the actual substance of DG. I’d been vaguely aware that their fanbase had a bad rep but all these tour horror stories are really putting shit into stark relief. Though tbf I’ve heard that crowd etiquette is getting worse across the board culturally speaking, so it’s probably not a DG exclusive thing.
Not trying to doxx myself, but FWIW I saw them twice on this most recent tour and my crowds seemed basically totally fine aside from a few meme outfits (which I personally find cringe but are harmless in a vacuum). So idk, hopefully it’s a particularly prominent and ugly minority spoiling it for everyone else. I’m personally not gonna stop loving art that I find genuinely powerful just because it attracts a contingent of slimeballs and manchildren. Death Grips rool and I’m gonna keep saying that with my chest.
Spittin facts, homie. The death grips fandom is genuinely why I stopped playlisting DG and just moved onto the likes of clipping and JPEGMAFIA, especially the latter 'cause he hates the kinds of Death Grips kids who ‘you look just like Stefan!!’ and y’know what, so the fuck do I
I also love Peggy and that interview clip of him shitting on DG fans is hilarious lol. been meaning to listen to clipping but I need to be in the right headspace to try new stuff (my brain is aging and inflexible).
I hear it-- clipping can be CHALLENGING to get into on first looks, too; some days Daveed’s closer to a noise artist than an outright rapper-- there’s several songs in that discography that I have to listen to through headphones, down low, because some of the textures and samples they’ll use puts my partner off just based on the kinds of noises that trigger them; so I’d def save getting into it for when you’ve got the right headspace
As a huge clipping. fan, sometimes listening to their stuff on loop, you can either find yourself vibing hard, or like that coach tearing his headset off
