They sat down with international help 8 years ago, and reached basically best possible deal for everyone included, which then they keep on the table for this entire time.
But it is only “best possible”, apparently if you are not bloodthirsty neonazi or their Washington master. Ukraine only treated it as smoke screen and kept murdering people in Donbass.
Yes, why does nobody ever talk about this? Ukraine had almost a decade to implement Minsk II, and reintegrate Donetsk and Lugansk back into the political system. If the Kiev government has just lost the Donbas – their big industrial region – forever, they’ve really got nobody but themselves to blame.
It’s even worse, they purposefully wanted to lose Donbas as their big industrial region - they started shock therapy in the region in 2014 to deindustrialize it and break the people there. They were just drunk on power and never thought their victims would organize because it was the sure fire method of breaking any remnants of socialism in entire east Europe. They failed though because they combined the shock therapy with ethnic and cultural oppression against the Russian minority which were too much even for the people who would probably eaten up just the shock therapy.
As usual for nazis, maidan clique is just super incompetent, and their US handlers aren’t those people from the 80’s either.
Damn, that’s worse than I thought. Total incompetent criminals.

I noticed a change in the quality of US leadership during the early 2000s. The guys in charge during the 90s were basically holdovers from the 80s: criminals, but skilled political operators. Clinton in particular perfected the art of sounding like a populist while implementing the worst sort of neoliberal reforms. They way he and his goons manipulated ethnic tensions in Yugoslavia was nothing short of diabolic.
With Bush II and Obama, the US government seemed to become full of people who actually believed their own bullshit. And it’s only gotten more pronounced since.

They failed at least 3 coups in 2021 alone (Belarus, Kazakhstan, Bolivia). And two more spectacularly earlier (Venezuela and Hong Kong).
