Over 200,000 people showed up for Orlando Pride over the weekend, as an 11-year-old transgender girl led the parade as Grand Marshal.

The event was seen as a way to push back against Gov. Ron DeSantis‘ ® ongoing campaign of discrimination and persecution of the LGBTQ+ community.

      There’s 22 million Floridians.

A 60% vote for DeSantis means 8.8 million sensible people in the state at an absolute minimum

The number of registered republicans only overtook democrats in 2021. But the state has been getting more red for years as wealthier people and retirees move there while younger left-leaning people have been fleeing the state’s rising CoL under Skeletor and especially Deathsentence. I think the supercharging of the dumbass base via maga and Deathsentence propaganda that otherwise wouldn’t have voted prior to '16 also contributed to more registrations.

GOOD. Fuck desantis and his fascist rule. People thrive when they’re their best selves - everyone at this pride event deserves nothing but love and support. I can only imagine how awesome that parade must have been, Cleveland’s parade is big but not that big.

Better to affirm the gender they feel early so they have plenty of time experiencing it so on the low change they realize they’re not the gender they thought they were they have plenty of time and were able to experience it.

I grew up with a trans girl 35 years ago. We knew from the moment this child could express preferences that something was up. I’m talking 18 months - 2 years old, this kid is playing with dolls and trying on mom’s high heels and makeup.

Back then, none of us had ever heard of a transgender person and had no idea this was even a thing, so we just assumed she was a gay boy. When she finally learned that trans people existed when she was in high school and told her mom, “Hey I’m a girl,” it was like the most face-palmingly obvious thing ever. Of COURSE that’s what we’d been seeing literally her entire life.

If she were growing up today, she and everyone around her would have identified her correctly at a much earlier age.
