China plans and directs their economy. In the US, we rely on the “invisible hand” to guide our economy. Of course, the invisible hand is nonsense. The US economy is still planned and guided, it’s just being guided by a relatively small number of corporate owners and executives, and they guide the economy in whichever direction is going to make them richest.
