Oof. I started 2x to write something, and… just the utterly sinister nature of Rastapopoulos made me delete and try again. He’s so very emblematic of today’s world that I think I’ll just shut up on that. Either that, or go off on a tantrum.

One thing I’ll say about this album (I think it’s this album) is that I’m forever getting it mixed up with “Land of Black Gold” when it comes to the quizzes. I must have read both about a dozen times over the years, and I’m still completely hopeless, haha.

Oh yeah, so partway thru “Red Sea Sharks” while Tintin’s running around with his friends, there’s suddenly this costume party on a yacht in the middle of the ocean. When I first read this as a lil kid I thought this was the craziest thing in the world. (This was way before cruise lines were relatively common, or at least I’d never heard of them.) Anyway I didn’t really “get” the subtleties of the story but there was enough action and joking to make this an OK book.

Something I realised just now is that the professor’s homemade submarine from “Secret of the Unicorn” evidently helped create a global, personal submarine industry, as was launched from the luxury yacht at the end. Or at least, that’s now part of my belief system. :D
