I quite often have political thoughts in the shower, and also wish to express them; simply as being shower thoughts. However, rule number 3 prohibits this, or at least requiring me to dance around the subject; which feels somewhat limiting.

Despite this rule, there’s still a significant portion of politically charged posts, which may annoy others, not interested in political topics. I personally wouldn’t join the community, but rather visit it periodically; for an arguably healthier politics-life balance.

Therefore I’m not interested in starting a community myself; which is where some of you might be able to help out. I think this has the potential to greatly improve compliance to rule number 3, while still being able to express such thoughts, in a similar forgiving context.

Would absolutely love to see political nonsense off this sub. If there’s a new sub for it, whatever, I definitely wouldn’t subscribe.

I even made an icon for it (with a voting pencil instead). Is there anyone who would be interested in making this thing a reality? As stated in the body of the post, I’m not politically involved enough to be a mod for the community.

Holy shit, is that a variation on an existing icon or did you just spitball a neat visual metaphor from scratch on the spot?

Both: I used the bulb, droplets and colors of the Showerthoughts icon, and did the pencil part myself. Thanks for the compliment though! :)

Politics and Ai should be siloed off to their own dumpsters for every conceivable topic. Remove that toxic shit from comics, memes, shower thoughts, etc

People are allowed to create boundaries for themselves. Just because they set a very fucking healthy boundary of no political posts on social media, doesn’t mean they can’t engage politically in other ways. Probably they’ll have more energy to actually take concrete action when they’re not just seething in front of a screen.

If you want to have political content, go make a sub and post there. Nobody is stopping you, and nobody is obliged to engage with content they don’t want to.

Some kind of trough thoughts community for ai (pigs eating slop from a trough is the image I have in mind).

And maybe a toilet thoughts for politics?

      Thoughts?

Yes. Start one. The biggest benefit of having different subs back over at u/fuckspez dumpsterland was the independence to create whatever you or anyone wanted. We are here because we believed even more different and have the right to choose whatever we want. Since politics and ai are not welcome here, doesn’t mean there isn’t a crowd for it. Go for it.

We should just drop rule 3 here. Why are we gatekeeping what topics you can have a showerthought about?

It seems the mods have decided otherwise, whereas a dedicated community can set its own rules. Like I said in the body, I’m not interested in constantly being bombarded with political posts; ideally only when I explicitly choose to visit such communities.

Because political “shower thoughts” aren’t shower thoughts at all, they’re soapboxing.

Nobody is gatekeeping what topics you can have a showerthought on. But people are allowed to choose to not read them. Or create spaces where certain topcis are not welcome. You are free to create a space for whatever content you want to see.
