Everyone in this thumbnail needs to stop touching their fucking microphone.
I hate to admit it, but I have checked out a few AI metal bands and what I heard was not that bad musically. I doubt I would part with money for it. I support bands, not computers.
As I’ve been on a big Buckethead kick, one of the things I find I like about Mr. Bucket is the emotion you can hear in his playing. It’s hard to hear in his aggressive styles but when you listen to pikes like ‘Communicating Through The Stars’ and ‘Hold Me Forever’ it’s pretty evident, and it’s beautiful. His song ‘Soothsayer’ can literally make me tear up if I’m not in a great frame of mind. It’s rare to get that in music.
Where I think they go wrong with the AI is the marketing where they try to masquerade it as a real band comprised of real humans. That’s slighting your audience and creating doubt before you even got to a point of creating trust.
On the flipside, I just bought Megadeth’s new album February 9th. The ‘last’ album that was going to (allegedly) cause a renaissance and “smack people upside of their earholes”. I liked tracks 2,3 and 11. The rest of the CD was pretty underwhelming. I’ve already dropped it off in storage. Was disappointed.
From my perspective, humans have ruined more music up to this point than AI has. If you gave me the choice of listening to Pat Boone’s ‘In A Metal Mood’ or anything from AI, I’d take the AI. Holy fukashita is that a new level of bad. He makes you hurt alright. I find it distressing that a person calling himself an ‘audio engineer’ probably said “That was great Pat. Good job.”
