And I’m scared of his drug addled ass, so swings and round abouts.

“When I’m standing by myself and three gays are next to me touching my leg, I get scared … I’m sorry. If that’s homophobic, then I’m that,” he said. “I’ll be honest with you, big gay people are scary to me.”

Touching as in like, there’s so many people you can’t avoid bumping into people, or groping? I definitely get it if it’s the latter, and I’ve met plenty of people who think getting a squeeze in without permission is okay. We have scumbags like that in the LGBTQ+ community as well, unfortunately.

        Exactly.

I find it hard to not be sympathetic if that’s how he felt.

I agree, but I don’t know if LaBeouf is a reliable narrator

Jeffrey Damnit, a well-known local entertainer who police identified as Jeffrey Klein in the incident report, said he was one of the people attacked by LaBeouf […]
LaBeouf “just got nuts” trying to start fights and telling the entertainer and others that he would beat them up, Damnit said. He added that LaBeouf had pushed him from behind at the bar earlier in the night, shouting homophobic slurs and threatening his life […]
“I didn’t shove nobody, I never touched nobody,” LaBeouf tells New Orleans police officers in the video recorded by Damnit.

Could still be his lived experience through the lens of drugs and/or alcohol. I don’t really know anything about this guy, but from the other comments it sounds like he needs some proper help. Or maybe he’s just a psycho who likes beating up gay guys, there’s plenty of people like that in the world too.

Could be trauma from someone higher up in Hollywood. Terry Crews opened up about being grooped by a high level male executive. Brendan Fraser has also claimed to have had the same thing happen to him and that compounded his long hiatus. Neither resorted to homophobia, but this seems to have come out of nowhere with Shia, so I’m inclined to believe there’s trauma involved.

          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shia_LaBeouf#Religion

LaBeouf contributed an essay to the 2004 book I Am Jewish by Judea Pearl, in which he stated that he has a “personal relationship with God that happens to work within the confines of Judaism”.[118] LaBeouf had described himself as Jewish,[119] but declared in 2007 that religion had “never made sense” to him.[16] However, LaBeouf said in an interview in Interview magazine in October 2014 that “I found God doing [the film] Fury. I became a Christian man […] Brad [Pitt] was really instrumental in guiding my head through this.”[120]

In an August 2022 interview with Bishop Robert Barron, LaBeouf said that he had fallen in love with the Catholic faith while studying for the titular role of the film Padre Pio and staying in a Capuchin monastery in the process. He stated that the Traditional Latin Mass played a key role in his conversion.[121][122] In May 2023, LaBeouf confirmed that he was undergoing the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults.[123] On December 31, 2023, LaBeouf was confirmed into the Catholic Church by Bishop Barron and it was said that he had expressed a wish to enter into the diaconate.[124][125]

Huh. Maybe his friend Brad Pitt needs to give him a call.

For those curious, this is a quote taken from his interview with Channel 5 News. I personally thought it was a really sad interview that shows just how far gone this man’s mind is. It doesn’t excuse the things he has done, but I do feel bad for him as a former child actor who has developed mental illness like so many other former child actors.

I have a problem with being touched by random people while in large crowds, but I avoid the problem altogether by avoiding large crowds, not by being homophobic.

My only experience with a gay dude that was like, genuinely fucking uncomfortable, was when I was at a club and this guy comes up to me clearly rolling talking about how he was there with his boyfriend (who was also rolling) looking for a third. Dude would not take a hint, and I’m a straight guy so it’s not like I was hinting at anything other than that.

The rest have been totally benign.
