For instance, the rate of cigar smoking and other tobacco or nicotine products, including electronic cigarettes, hasn’t budged lately. E-cigarette use is especially more prevalent among young adults (14.8% of those between 18 and 24). Overall, 18.8% of adults used some tobacco product in 2024, or about 47.7 million Americans.

Amount of young first time smokers starting directly with vapes is also concerningly high here in Germany.
So maybe a pyrrhic victory in the long term…

I’m in Germany right now, and it’s crazy how much more smoking of cigarettes there is than in the states. I hadn’t realized how much it’s disappeared in the US until coming here and smelling cigarettes everywhere

And even here in Germany it is already astonishingly low, compared to only a decade or two ago.
We started pretty high. During my childhood in the 80s, completely smoke-filled rooms were the norm, and it was very uncommon for an adult not to smoke…

As someone that’s been surrounded by smokers - if you can avoid it, please do. It will save you a fuck ton of money and health problems.

It’s more addictive than heroine. Don’t give those fucks your money or health.

It may be more addictive than heroin but the average person doesn’t understand that doesn’t mean the withdrawals are not worse, just the insipid craving

What? The average person definitely understands that heroin has more severe withdrawal symptoms than cigarettes. Wtf are you talking about?

Saying substance X is more addictive than substance Y is a fully different statement than substance X has more severe withdrawal symptoms than substance Y.

Alcohol has such severe withdrawal symptoms that it can easily kill people who are severely addicted to alcohol. But alcohol is not nearly as addictive as many other things to the point where far less people ever experience that type of withdrawal from alcohol.

Cigarettes are more addictive than heroin, heroin is more addictive than alcohol. In making that type of statement, no one is ever saying that being a smoker is more consequential than being a heroin addict. People dont often turn to theft or prostituting themselves or lose a job over smoking a cigarette… literally everyone understands that

Meanwhile, in the Netherlands. Everything is choking from cigarettes. Trash, canals, lungs. Its bad. The plastic pollution alone from discarded butts is mind boggling to think about.

I’ll be honest. I quit smoking because I’d rather suck a donkeys dick than pay > $5 a pack. If they dropped down to 2 packs for $5 I’ll be smoking again. I enjoyed smoking but fuck paying that much.
