    Explanation: Ashoka was an emperor of India in the 3rd century BCE, known for a variety of expansive building projects, including for public welfare and safety along the roads of the Mauryan Empire. After a particularly brutal (but wildly successful) war, he supposedly renounced violence and dedicated himself to Buddhist teachings.

    How was he supposed to know war killed a lot of people before he tried it for himself!? 😭

      Theres a huge difference between growing up and hearing about the heroic soldiers lionized for their “acts of bravery” and actually hearing and seeing a person’s face while they die. Both change you, in pretty opposite ways.
