Unfun fact: Sushi factory scene shot in my back yard. (Well not technically my back yard, but close enough.)
More fun fact. I got to see Maria Bello and Vigo Mortensen naked when Cronenberg shot a scene for A History of Violence in the same location.
cool
Wasn’t this one posted just earlier this week?
It was a different photo: https://piefed.social/c/ClassicFilms/p/1919626/existenz-1997
(imho Videodrome and Naked Lunch were much better movies tho…)
Cronenberg’s filmography is pretty even all things considered and each movie has something unique to offer so its a matter of preference.
idk… I’ve only seen 5 of his movies but personally those seemed to fall into a couple different tiers:
- innovative cult classics, some of the most memorable movies out there: Videodrome, Naked Lunch
- standard issue movies, well done but typical fare: Dead Zone, The Fly
- I see what he was going for but it didn’t really work and he did it better previously: eXistenZ
I’m not hatin tho, if eXistenZ resonated for you that’s cool, I should def. check out some of his other stuff too.
Cronenberg’s filmography is very-very solid. His OG trilogy of fucked up shit - Shivers, Rabid and The Brood is a lot of fun. Scanners go hard. Dead Ringers features not one but Jeremy Irons’ chewing the living fuck of the script. Spider has Ralph Fiennes doing Christopher Eccleston which is a sight to behold in its own right. Crash is the right kind of fucked up wacky melodrama. It’s like Lubitsch or Sirk movie if he was into car crashes. History of Violence features Viggo Mortensen being one scary person

Great movie. I don’t think I have experienced more of a feverdream-like feeling in film.
Naked Lunch enters chat. and Crash too.
Those just went on my list! Thanks!
you’re welcome
