385TB video game archive saved by fans — Myrient has been ‘100% backed up’ and validated, torrents being generated
It is great to share good news regarding the preservation of classic video games. However, with the 385TB resource now backed up, work is underway “generating torrents and getting them available.”Article continues belowTorrents? Image 1 of 3 (Image credit: Future) (Image credit: Future) (Image credit: Future)As mentioned previously, Myrient is still operational. Myrient and AIThe AI industry frenzy undoubtedly contributed to the original Myrient archive’s soaring costs, ahead of its closure announcement. Perhaps ironically, if Myrient hadn’t been saved, retro fans may have looked to AI to generate copies of their favorite apps and games of yesteryear? 🖊️️🤖

In the first four months, the experiment grew from just 50 games in 30 regions to now over 190 games in more than 70 regions. In addition to regular discounts, during the February PlayStation Store sales PSPrices reports that it found that experiment participants received a different discount compared to regular users, as well. “For example, Helldivers 2 was sold to regular users at -25%, while experiment participants saw -56%,” it said. 🖊️️🤖

I finally bought one after price hikes. It’s a great deal—great fun, custom OS, RetroAchievements for Castlevania & Secrets of Mana, and easy access to PICO‑8 games. I wish I had it sooner. Anyone else own a retro handheld? 🖍🤖

The Secret of monkey island projectThe ongoing work involves the classic The Secret of Monkey Island. We are converting the complete game for the Commodore 64. My task in this project is to bring all the graphics to the screen on the Commodore 64 platform. This is a large task involving a meticulous process of hand-drawing each background, as well as the animations and characters. The pixel art and animations are made by Joachim Ljunggren/Pixeldust. 🖊️️🤖

Dokimon: Quest Brings Pokémon GBC-Style Gameplay To iOS
If you were ever in doubt as to whether the retro gaming community craves more titles like the GBC Pokémon offerings, then take a look at Dokimon: Quest. This game channels everything we loved about Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal, as well as the 8-bit feel of the GBC’s back catalogue, as a whole. Credit: Yanako RPGSSome of you might have played Dokimon: Quest on Steam or even on Nintendo Switch as Doki Monsters: Quest, and now it’s coming to iOS for iPhone users to download and play anytime, anywhere without bringing a console along for the ride. Dokimon: Quest isn’t a ROM hack; it’s a new RPG from Yanako RPGs with a full 15+ hour story and 144 monsters to capture and train up along the way. Fight bad guys, train monsters, save the day - it’s a format you’re very familiar with, but with a twist that adds more RPG features than the standard Pokémon games. 🖊️️🤖
