Seth MacFarlane just gave the clearest public update yet on The Orville Season 4, and gang… it’s a big one.

In this episode, I break down Seth’s comments about Season 4 being completely written and ready to go once his schedule clears. After years of rumors, confusion, and clickmongering nonsense all over the internet, we finally have a real update straight from the man himself. I also talk about why I was never too worried about The Orville coming back, why Scott Grimes’ earlier comments still made sense at the time, and why Brigadoon may be the final stop before Seth returns to the captain’s chair.

Kind of old news, but newer than anything that had been posted here.

An actual timeline is still up in the air, but there’s no question that it’s a matter of when not if at this point.

Ten years of Alex Kurtzman’s Star Trek and only three years of The Orville is a bad balance. As he’s on the way out, hopefully The Orville season 4 comes out soon and hopefully the series continues on long afterwards.

…And, if we’re being honest, Disney (the current owners of The Orville IP) not helping MacFarlane get more Orville out faster is a blessing in disguise. Better than them stepping in and demanding a set number of episodes each year regardless of quality. If they wanted to cancel it, they would have long ago.

The Orville definitely has gotten better season over season. It started out with a bit of an identity crisis. It seems like they wanted to start out as slapstick Trek parody (which frankly it was pretty mediocre at), but it has evolved into a legitimate sci-fi show.

I wonder if they will get all the actors back for the next season.

If you want to see the actual video instead of the youtuber talking about the video, it’s here.

Dropping Names…and other things with Brent & Jonny is a conversation podcast show from Star Trek: The Next Generation stars Brent Spiner and Jonathan Frakes.

It’s timestamped, so you can click directly to when he talks about the Orville.

      I have, it’s a great episode.

Everyone should watch the whole thing, Frakes and Spiner are so cute together.
