Why was their strategy misread for years

    Racism

People literally laughed at the idea that Cuba could create a lung cancer vaccine as was first reported and then…realized no actually they did though

They want to laugh at global South countries trying to invent anything, and in some cases like Libya building the manmade water project (can’t remember the actual name) which everyone laughed at them suggesting they’d be able to build it, the government and NATO targeted it for destruction during their overthrow of Gaddafi; a gigantic undertaking that brought water to thousands (tens of thousands?) of people that no one believed they could do, and then it was destroyed by people who were incensed at the thought that the global South was more competent than they were allowed to be

What you mean other than all of the China watchers and real car nerds who kept screaming at the industry “Hey, look at what is happening in China! Their car companies are collapsing because it is an extremely competitive market, and the strong are eating the weak, as what usually happens, and when the strong emerge, they are going to dominate the global market against our legacy car manufacturers who haven’t faced any real competition since the 90’s!”

I want to care about BYD, but by the time they come here, the taxes and regulations and other shit will price them out of reach for most working folks, plus they won’t be as easy to repair, lacking the support infrastructure.

I mean fuck Tesla and the elongated muskrat. I like BYD, but I don’t see them bringing their noted low prices here.

My generation (X) grew up associating Chinese products with low quality. That might have been true in the 1970s and 1980s, but China has gotten a lot better (as many things do). But I think they have an uphill battle if they want to sell cars to the west. I think it’ll happen sooner than later, though, and I’ll trust electric cars from China before I’ll trust anything by Tesla.
