I really dislike their new DRM update even if its “testing the waters” , after being a fan for so long I’m set to completely drop them by the end of this year (yes I’m waiting for gta6).

I managed to convince my normie friends to switch with me to PC gaming by being their IT support 😂

Looks like I’ll have to jailbreak my PS4 and keep it offline to keep access to the stuff I bought and paid for.

The current story they’re talking about is a 30 day temporary license from point of purchase of a digital game. Supposedly after the refund window has lapsed, the license renews to a permanent license. If the temporary license expires whilst the console is offline or PSN is offline the game won’t run. Supposedly it’s to prevent people from buying games, taking the console offline, and refunding. In theory it should work like before after the 14 to 30 days.

My scenario is a bit different. None of my digital games will run after dusting off my PS4 and hooking it up. The Internet says it’s because it’s not my primary console, but I can’t make it primary without updating it. That would burn a perfectly good, exploitable firmware that’s currently running. I believe there is a homebrew hack for making it primary again without updating, but I’ll have to look into it once it’s jailbroken.

Rough. I’m all for PC, but you’re about to find out how expensive PC gaming is with the “memory crisis”. I’ve been with Xbox myself for 20 years and my game library is so big I couldn’t imagine switching. My gaming PC was over 2500 a few years ago and it sits there collecting dust bc consoles are easier to fire up and play here and there. It was also easier to share licenses with games to play co-op with my kids. I’ll be ditching soon I feel cuz that falls to the wayside more and more, and GP keeps going up and up. No longer can i just pay $5/mo gold for online, its at least $10 for no good reason.

I guess I can’t blame you, of they do age / ID verification or whatever you wanna call it, I’ll probably ditch consoles too.

Surely memory prices hit consoles the same. Unless you specifically meant making the switch now is expensive.

I’ve been on PC for decades, I don’t think I’ve ever paid 2500, and never bought “bad” hardware.

The Steam Box releasing this year may very well be a great alternative for “easy setup” and “easy fire-up”. A PC with its open ecosystem, but a default OS that is much like consoles, a gaming platform frontend.

I’m willing to take a fat loss on memory if it means I’m leaving a predatory ecosystem.

also true on the gold subscription, ps plus is also going up and I’m not willing to tolerate it more

Tell me about how you upgrade your console’s hardware to make it last another five years. Tell me about how you installed an open source operating system to do whatever you want with your console.

Probably referring to the ecosystem. Most game-launchers and stores on PC (except GOG) constantly do the same kind of license checks we’re currently dragging Sony for before letting us launch games, we kinda just don’t feel it because our PCs are online most of the time.

              2 things:

              1. You have no idea how much a PS6 is going to cost. RAM and storage prices also have an effect on console prices

              2. They were talking about upgrading individual components incrementally. Something that is easy and far less expensive that upgrading the whole machine. Consoles don’t have that option
