The pandemic did a number on a lot of queues but it really seems to have hit driving tests hard. As long as they don’t decide lowering the standards is the way to solve it.
It sounds like they need to be offering more for examiners.
No, make tests earlier, just like what Canada has done…
That’s one way of reducing the number of cars on the road 🤷
Sounds like they’re keeping the bad drivers off roads
Or maybe it’s bad by design - they could be intentionally overcharging for profit, or the courses should be revised bcs a 50% failure rate usually indicates something wrong with the learning institution, not the students.
Unless a high failure rate itself is a core teaching technique (in the sense that folk need to get accustomed to failure & financial consequences - but that would be weird).
I know lots of people who shouldn’t be on the road but are because road tests in Canada are beyond easy.
IMO driving should be taught in secondary school regardless if they have a licence or not and that way people will know the rules.
Sit at an intersection and watch how many people are unable to properly turn esp trucks/SUV. They never let their rear wheels hit the line before turning so they cut into opposing lanes.
All because they are being taught by people who don’t know how to teach driving because once again our testing standards are dogshit
Yes, reform the system.
(Or you know, make alternative infrastructure so ppl aren’t forced to drive.)
Also yes, ppl not only cut into other lanes at intersections, but also change lanes completely, wtf.
It’s not necessarily a conspiracy; it’s a bottleneck. Because wait times are 5 months long, people are terrified to cancel their slots even if they aren’t ready. They ‘have a go’ anyway just to see if they get lucky, which keeps the fail rate high and the queues long. It’s a vicious cycle of desperation, not a plot to overcharge people.
The UK test is notoriously one of the hardest in the world, and that’s why our roads are statistically much safer than places where you get a license in a cereal box.
If it resulted in better quality drivers, great… I see more and more unmitigated arseholes on the road weaving through traffic and gunning down the 30 next to my house at all hours.
The 5 month wait is apparently because it’s bribe based now.
You can pay your instructor a few hundred quid and they’ll get you booked for a test within a week
