A few companies have done this before… it seems to only work if it’s paired with battery swapping
Malaysian car manufacturer Perodua requires a subscription for their battery even though there is no battery swapping.
Also
If you decide to sell the QV-E, you can only do it through the Perodua Pre-Owned Vehicles (POV) platform.
Perodua will disable the vehicle’s start function or battery operation. This will happen if you miss your payment for 2 months.
If you continue to miss the payment for another month (so, that’s 3 months of missed payments in total), the lease agreement will then be terminated. Once that happens, Perodua is going to locate your car and recover the battery within 14 days.
Battery subscription without battery swapping is a scam IMO.
Renault did it with the Zoe. It was a 70€/month charge, which negated all savings you got from driving an electric car. The pricing was horrific on that one.
