RRR rewatch. A friend hadn’t ever seen a Indian epic before so introduced them to the genre.

Before that, Mantis and Killer Boksoon. Korean action thrillers about contract killers.

修羅雪姫 怨み恋歌 (Lady Snowblood: Love Song of Vengeance)(1974)(Japanese)

A sword fighting vengeance flick that’s a poor sequel to the much better 修羅雪姫 (Lady Snowblood) (1973) that also has a little bit of gratuitous nudity thrown in for some reason. Still beautifully shot but muddled story line.

Watched in the #KungFuSat watch party on Mastodon.

Battle Royale. It was okay, I feel like it’s overrated purely because it was first and is Japanese, but I suppose its hard to appreciate it fully today, given its influence.

Miss Carbon. It’s a movie starring Lux Pascal, about the first woman to work in the coal mine in her town, and the battles she had to go through to make it happen given how male dominated it is.

I heard that this 1995 production of Madama Butterfly was worth a watch, and yeah; it’s very good and free on YouTube.

Written in 1904, but it’s about a wealthy POS American who goes to an island to engage in some child prostitution, so strangely relevant themes to modern times.

There’s definitely some orientalism in the text, but I think it’s still worth seeing if one understands the cultural context. The music is transcendingly beautiful.

Angel’s Egg is a crazy experience, I find it helps to get in a certain state of mind when re-watching it.

While I generally dislike most anime, productions like Angels’s Egg, Perfect Blue, Metropolis or Megazone 23 are IMO a whole step up compared to many live action movies that go for a similar feel.

Stéphane (2023), it was quite fun, definitely influenced by Creep (2014) but still doing its own thing enough to be entertaining for me

    HIP: High Intellectual Potential

Not a movie but I started watching High Potential last year but even though it was fun at first I’ve gone off a lot of American TV so switched to the original French version.
