They can’t steal your city if you force them to level it to the ground.
I need one I’d those awesome people to write a detailed historical context and story for this, as I’m incredibly curious
Turns out there’s a whole lot of them here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Zaragoza_(1809)
Illness seems to have been a major issue on both sides, largely before battle wounds.
That’s always been true of warfare, especially during sieges.
The Siege of Madrid (Spanish Civil War, 1936–1939), The Siege of Plevna (Russo-Turkish War, 1877–1878), The Siege of Osaka (1614–1615), The Siege of Numantia (Celtiberian Wars, 134–133 BC)
Battle for Hue, January-March 1968.
Arguably long sieges of the past were worse, e.g. 20 years long siege of Candia.
Can you imagine the siege lifts the day after your nineteenth birthday?
You could already be married with children of your own.
And they were constantly attacked all that time, insane. Ottomans were fucked as well , no one actually came better from that siege.
Urban combat is always ugly. Firearms make it so much worse.
