We haven’t looked a lot at dragon media. The only thing we’ve experinced would be some vague memories of How To Train Your Dragon, wanted to get into it again, but heard that it’s mostly geared towards children. Plus, there’s emphasis on dragons and “trainers” and well, we’d rather to have the focus on dragons. Sentient, language speaking, personified, dragons, is what we want.

We’d rather have something to watch (send us YT vids, animated shorts, etc), we’re okay with comics as well. We’re not super big into reading text, but we will try to read if it’s something super interesting to us.

Thanks!

EDIT: We’ve also had a an absolute blast, playing Dragon Mania Legends as a kid, we absolutely adored (and still do!) the design of dragons of that game. Take a look at the banana dragon and tell us that this isn’t silly and cute :D

Edit 2: Preferabbly cute and wholesome! No fighting or wars, but we’ll take what we get.

Main recommendation: Meadowhawk! It’s about cute dragons living in modern society.

Alternate recommendation, maybe not so accurate: Wings of Fire, a fantasy book series. The dragons are intelligent, and they are the main protagonists. It is geared toward younger readers, but there is a lot of war and violence for that group. However, since you don’t prefer reading text, you could read the graphic novel series, which has the more violent parts toned down or removed.

Dragonheart comes to mind, it’s about a dragon and dragon slayer who decide it’s more profitable to work together to fake slayings.

Dragonball too but I’m guessing that’s not what you’re after.

Dragon Tails Webcomic by Tim Dawson, sadly only accessible via Internet Archive nowadays.

    Cute Dragons? Check!

Wholesome? Check (if you ignore some of Bluey’s pranks)!

    Not too much text? Check!

    Funny as hell? Double check!

Sorry this is a book series, but I throughly enjoyed the Temeraire series by Naomi Novik. It’s sort of a reimagining of the napoleonic wars but with dragons.

The first one is His Majesty’s Dragon. There are audiobooks of all the books if that makes a difference for you! In the US you might be able to access for free through Overdrive/Libby, which you sign up for with your local library card.

The main character is a human, unfortunately BUT the dragons are given reasonably deep character development and they have their own society.

    Also, not romantasy.

Dragon Tales was a turn-of-the-century childrens’ show. Probably geared toward younger audiences than you’re catering to, but this is the best fit I can manage at the moment. Maybe a quick 3-hour wiki-walk will point you in the right direction?

We tried looking around TV tropes, but the results were incomplete. Which is why we thought asking the community was a good idea

Unfortunately my greatest suggestion is reading text, Dragonriders of Pern by Anne McCaffrey. Pern is a planet where a red star comes and drops “thread” which is a material that consumes all organic material, but can be burned by fire. The dragons and their riders are what keeps people/crops/etc from being ravaged by the thread.

The dragons and their riders have a telepathic bond, where the dragons are intelligent.
