Remember this the next time you see someone post a link from CBS News.
This headline is a little misleading, to me at least. I read it saying something happened last night that they don’t even want him to finish out next week. Not to say that the actual content is better, just made me feel like I missed a very unhinged episode, when it was actually its usual level of hinge.
Even mild criticism from their fellow liberals isn’t allowed any more.
Everything needs to be a cult now
To some. It must be terrible for everyone successful to be what you are not.
Yes success is being in a cult and… Therefore both I and Colbert are not successful? I don’t get it
Colbert is successful. He just got fired by trash monkeys.
Oh so he is in a cult just the wrong one?
No.
Then I don’t understand what was being said
CBS is THE Zionist propaganda mouthpiece, and that’s saying something so who cares. Hopefully Colbert, who seems like a “good” lib, gets a nicer platform, idk.
I honestly think shit like this is the death knell for traditional network television.
It’s also the end of the world seeing the United States of America as a credible national partner on anything in the future.
Yeah, this is something that Trump and his current band of idiots can’t understand.
Soft power has given the US far, far, far more influence in the world than the combined military campaigns throughout the time the the US has existed.
It will take centuries to repair the dammage the Trump regime has caused the US, and I mean centuries of hard, focused work, slowly rebuilding trust, spending a LOT of money on rebuilding protections.
They understand. But they also see the US’ soft power fading. China has essential manufacturing the US is basically dependent on. BRICS in general is getting more powerful. The harm that capitalism and the US especially has caused to this planet is coming due and people are looking for something else that will not lead to disaster.
Trumpism is a desperate final bid by the US elite to retake control over the world, or at least the US. They want to use AI to replace labor, police, and military. They want to commit genocide to free up resources for themselves. They are betting everything on the next couple years.
Or we could abolish borders save lots of work not be evil
I’d rather not have a single world government.
So let’s get rid of the governments with the borders I like that idea
I am not a big believer in that concept, I believe we need governments for our nations, governments that cater out the nations’s dedicated needs
Centuries? Germany was mostly forgiven after decades.
Why are you talking about forgiveness?
I spoke about trust.
These are completely different
Very well, Germany was mostly trusted after decades.
Sort of yeah, though there was the war crimes trial putting a at least symbolic end to the Nazis.
Also there were reforms to stop that shit from happening again.
Until we see something similar there won’t be a specific turning point, making trust harder to come by.
If no reforms are put in place to prevent a regime like this from coming to power again, why should the rest of the world trust the US?
If the US abolishes FPTP completely, which it won’t, then the timeline to trust will be accellerated.
I think the corruption of the empire in the midst of the rise of the global South and the dissemination of information means that America can no longer dictate policies around the world (else we coup, bomb or destabilise you) without consequence, and that the narratives around America, which basically turned the world’s rapist and murderer into a hero or something (nothing new, just the new head of Western civilization, after the UK, France and Germany bombed each other into irrelevance), are quickly being destroyed by reality.
Of course, most of the world understood this inherently because they were Western victims, but heads of state (and everyone under them in the power structure, including media companies) had to acquiesce or else… now, not so much.
You are correct, but gave me a weird thought.
If you gave me a timeline, and a pin labeled “the end of the world seeing the United States of America as a credible national partner” - and offered me $1,000.00 to put the pin in the most defensible spot on the timeline…
Well, I’m confident I wouldn’t leave with that $1,000.00.
i do wonder what these boomer networks do without latenight talkshows, just fill it with more spun 24hr “news”?
iirc Colbert is the most popular and even he regularly gets less viewers than the top podcasters/streamers…wonder why he even hangs around, Conen did great breaking away. Kimmel would do awful obviously but i think plenty of people would watch Colbert
In my house we are ad adverse… We see an ad on paper, TV, computer and immediately assume the company is a piece of shit until proven otherwise.
I got no network TV. Actually there isn’t a TV here at all. We watch a Friday movie on our projector. The rest is phone or computer. And its refreshing and hilarious to see my kids reaction to ad’s.
It could have been great for them, but advertiser’s fucked up the internet with their enshitification.
Sometimes while browsing a bit more mindlessly than I intend to on the fediverse I stop mid swipe and with spontaneous elation think “I have not seen a single damn ad this entire time!”.
It will never get old for me.
He can turn this around fast enough to give the entire country whiplash, just by announcing his candidacy.
Colbert is without a doubt more qualified than Trump to be president. But that’s not actually saying much. Don’t get me wrong, I would gladly vote for Colbert over whatever creature the MAGAts nominate for 2028. But I don’t think Colbert wants to be president. I think he knows hes not really suitable.
Also, he old. Not as old as some other candidates, but can maybe time for someone below 50 to get the office?
Agreed.
57 is the maximum age for an ideal, first-term candidate. 57 gives two four-year terms, while remaining under the retirement age. Colbert will reach retirement age in his first term.
Colbert isn’t an ideal candidate, but he’s not a bad one. He’s electable, as is Jon Stewart.
Colbert should work with Meidas Touch network to get the crew rehired and work on their own shows. I believe Meidas even reached out to give Colbert and team full creative license if they were interested. Watch the YouTube viewership just slide right over. And, truth to power and all that.
Sounds particularly petty to me.
