The more that warfare is automated, especially with targeting, then the higher the chance of unintended casualties. This specific example might be benign as long as it only targets fast moving unmanned drones, but an automated defence could and has in the past targeted planes.
Some examples are when a Iranian employed Tor system (supplied by Russia) shot down a Ukrainian airline flight, or when Russian Pantsir-S shot down an Azerbaijani flight, although it is speculated that these were deliberate actions and not the result of misrelying on automated defences.
I would have framed the article around the operators rather than the automation.
