where do you live? that would be like ~$1.00 at the thrift store in my town
Most thrift stores are now owned by either Goodwill or Value Villlage.
Since they basically function as monopolistic syndicates, they’ve been jacking up prices all over the country.
Yeah I’m kinda pissed. I go to the Goodwill/Renaissances, the Salvation Army, and the Value Villages in Montreal. I have this little circuit I use based on public transit.
I’ve been to a few other brands of thrift stores but the prices all seem inflated. I don’t do garage sales or flea markets. Maybe I should? I’m really looking for unusual electronics finds.

deep south rural mountain town. the people who go to thrift stores will do without rather than spend $6 on a measuring cup
Yeah it’s more a hobby for me. Thrifting is for the well-to-do now.
Note that goodwill in Canada is not the same organization as goodwill in the USA.
The American one is all corporate and for-profit like Value Village.
Canadian Goodwill is still a charity, and is still focused on providing a service to the community.
Still 50% of what a brand new one costs. 🤷♂️
Real pyrex or soda-lime?
Fire-King hasn’t made borosilicate glassware in like 50 years, so I’d assume this is just soda lime glass.
I don’t know how to answer that. It doesn’t say Pyrex but I assumed the type of glass is the same formulation and just not using the brand name?
All caps PYREX good borosilicate. Lowercase Pyrex crappy soda-lime.
Turns out it’s not as simple as that, and there is no real certain way to tell. This video goes into some good detail:
Borosilicate and soda lime glass have a notably different index of refraction.
Submerged in mineral or vegetable oil, soda lime glass will be clearly visible, while borosilicate will disappear.
The video goes over that too. He tries both types of glass in mineral oil and there is little to no visual difference. Not saying that’s always the case, but again it’s not so simple.
If it’s all caps PYREX, its a really nice score.

I have so many Pyrex measuring cups. No reason, I just like them. Drives my wife crazy.
