I think it’s part of that category of things that confused the hell out of me as a child, and still doesn’t make sense today: Things That Aren’t Actually Supposed To Be Used.
Like the time I went over to a rich friend’s house and their mom got upset because I dried my hands with the fancy towel hanging next to the sink.

Duct tape was my first choice for repairing tears in my office chair, can confirm it is a bad idea

And yet youd still have to pay me another $50 to take it
I’m actually impressed at the attention in the work. Not seeing any tears or creases or folds in the tape. Nice clean parallel lines.
There’s gotta be at least $30 worth of funky tape on that thing.
