“Dozens of independent commissions are now likely to become purely executive agencies, shifting tremendous power over broad swaths of American life into the President’s hands.” It does this, she wrote, in the service of the majority’s “half-baked theory of executive power that is simultaneously all encompassing yet also subject to necessary but undefined exceptions. The one thing that does appear to be clear going forward is that chaos will follow.”

From approving mergers and regulating Wall Street and Crypto to determining which toys are safe for babies, independent agencies play a critical role in regulating the economy, the environment, our jobs, and the objects we rely on every day. Handing these decisions to donors or weaponizing them for political gain will line some pockets but almost certainly harm the public.

The politically uninterested and disengaged in the US are about to learn collapse is very political and the whiplash of that hitting people in the face is going to destroy a lot of people.

half-baked theory of executive power that is simultaneously all encompassing yet also subject to necessary but undefined exceptions.

Well that’s pretty damn easy to understand: all encompassing when a Republican is in office, and subject to every “necessary” and suddenly well defined exceptions when a Democrat is in office.

They can’t do anything because the “both sides are same” people convinced enough voters to stay home and not vote.

So now Trump becomes king and we lose our right to vote. GG

What are you doing to stop them? Sounds like you’re no different to me.

What? I’m not a politician, much less an establishment dem.

So, establishment dems are rubber-stamping everything republicans do. Glad we agree.

So like… The U.S. is well and truly even more fucked than it already was now, right? Is there even any coming back from something like this?

Not just to Trump but prolly then to JD Vance and perhaps after that any particularly assertive secret service member with grandiose dreams.
