      Or any other AOSP spin-off that’s not officialy Google certified Android, e.g. Lineage OS, /e/-OS.

        CalyxOS is back in the game now. First stable release was last week.

            Have been running it on my FP4 for 3 days now and am really happy. No bugs encountered so far and finally we get normal sized top menu buttons back with android 16.

            If you use seedvault backup, make sure to import the backup during the initial setup stage after install, NOT afterwards in the system settings. If you do it afterwards the app data import isnt gonna work in my experience.

      It certainly doesn’t hurt. But no you don’t. Google will give you an opt out. It’s a stupid system that still gives Google too much power over the Android ecosystem, but it is there

        Also you can just disable Google Play Services.

          Gotta watch out for the malware package (com.google.android.verifier)

    I don’t get it. What do the countries have to do with Android being locked up?

      @glibg10b@lemmy.zip

      Google is restricting non-playstore developers by requiring them to pay a $25 fee to register their government id to release apps. 4 countries first then the whole world in 2027.

      Google is rolling out their new app verification scheme first in those counties and then later in the rest of the world.

      The counties in question are basically beta testing the system in production for a year and then everyone else gets locked down as well

    I think, no matter how bad it is, that my next device is probably going to be a post-market OS device.
