    Because the UN has exactly one purpose: Serve as a forum for nations to communicate and prevent world war.

    The US also voted no because the belief that States are responsible for implementing human rights provisions themselves, not requiring other countries to pick up the tab. The US already provides more than half of global food aid. This resolution would have amounted to “all of your food belongs to everyone” which is bullshit.

        It basically is already. There are so many food security programs in the US.

        There’s SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) which gives cash directly to low-income people to buy food. It’s basically food stamps.

        There’s WIC which provides free essential foods for low-income women and their children.

        There’s TEFAP (The Emergency Food Assistance Program), which provides free food boxes and prepared meals to low-income households and supplies food banks.

        There’s CSFP (Commodity Supplemental Food Program) which provides monthly free food boxes to low-income seniors 60+ through food banks.

        There’s CACFP (Child and Adult Care Food Program) which provides reimbursements for meals and snacks to eligible children and adults who are enrolled for care at participating childcare centers, day care homes, and adult day care centers.

        There’s NSLP (National School Lunch Program) which funds free and reduced-price lunches for low-income students.

        There’s SBP (School Breakfast Program) which funds school breakfasts for free or reduced-price for low-income students and subsidizes the cost for all students to keep prices lower.

        There’s SFSP (Summer Food Service Program) which provides funding for sites to feed children and teens on school breaks that can’t get food at school. For free, and open to anyone 18 and younger, or older than 18 with disabilities. Here’s a map of all sites in the US that participate. https://kidsfoodfinder.org/

        Between all of these programs, you have to try to starve in the US. Starvation and malnutrition in the US is largely isolated to the elderly with severe cognitive disabilities like Alzheimer’s and dementia, and those with severe eating disorders. Malnutrition from lack of food is almost non-existent in the US because, despite Republicans’ best efforts, we actually do have a robust safety net when it comes to food.

        And this is on top of also providing more than half of global food aid.

        Have you even read that? The US is still the top donor, contributing more than all of Europe combined. And that’s with the massive decrease in spending by the Trump admin.

        The US went from about half of all global humanitarian spending (since that is not just food aid, which I was talking about but hey, move those goalposts!) to 23%.

          I feel like I’m going crazy that you’re responding to someone saying Europe is the greatest donor, and their proof is a publication showing the US donating more than twice Europe.

          Keep fighting the good fight, I guess. America Bad is just so hot right now.

    If food or even water was a human right then a lot of capitalisms main ideologies would be wrong. You see why capitalism should be dead 100 years ago.
