Has… Has the Economist not heard about mail order brides before? That shit goes back decades (and arguably further, but there was no major feminist movement to “avoid”, so the motives were different).

Spoiler alert: It goes poorly. Usually, the women are looking to escape the traditional values of wherever they’re from, with a cosmopolitan, open-minded Western man (and also money). So, there’s a bit of a mismatch.

i sure hope men who want subservient wives aren’t more inclined towards violence against them

sadly the men who want “subservient” wives also enjoy the popular traditions of raping kids and beating wives for not making them pork chops when they demanded steak.

In one viral clip captioned “Point of view: you have a Thai girlfriend”, Pafan kneels on the floor clipping Mike’s nails.

It only works if they stay there. If they come back she gets her green card and then dumps his ass.

America is a society where women work. Around the globe traditional society where men wield economic and social power over women erodes as cost of living forces women into the work force. They begin making money and having independence.

Poor people have always worked. Only in the 50s-70s did America’s middle class women get to choose between working and staying home. Single income households have become more scarce and even the “traditional” countries have women working at increasing rates.

They do this shit in the capital city of my country. Always a woman under 20, middle aged, or someone with a fetish for foreigners. The only foreign men who get baddies are usually able to get them in their own countries and most of the time the baddies they get are tourists or other expats.
