Assuming i never had to call anyone more than a few miles from me anyway, how practical would it be to stop having a phone altogether and just use MeshCore or Meshtastic for short range communication? What troubles would i run into from not having a phone?

I figure i could even buy radios for people i need to talk to and with no phone bill this would pay for itself in about a year.

There isn’t one, i’m pretty sure i’m the second person in my city to use this stuff. If i can replace my phone it won’t happen overnight.

Which precise use-cases are we talking about? A modern phone can do:

    • Short text messages, to individuals or groups
    • Voice calls, to individuals or groups, using the existing telephone network
    • Roaming across the world
    • GPS navigation and tracking
    • Data/Internet connectivity

I already use a dumbphone that can:

      • call
      • text and a couple other things that i use other tools for, like keeping notes.

For GPS, i have a GPS. For Internet stuff i have a computer. Voice i would not mind doing without, i prefer to talk face to face or use text. Roaming is something my phone already cannot do.
