Yes, and the left needs to get better at NOT pre-compromising and instead saying what they actually want. Leaving no room for negotiations is not viable in a two party system. This was the great failure of the Clintonista “Third Way” that literally drove GOP policy further right.
I literally don’t know how america can come back from the mentality of enjoying other human’s suffering. That doesn’t seem like a symptom that people ever really recover from, especially when reality seems to be rewarding them for it
Not sure why everyone believes this is solely an American thing.
Most governments today are perfectly happy benefiting from overseas slave wages and exploitation. I’d argue America at least is the most racially conscious society. Everywhere has racists but God damn talking to some Europeans or Africans or South Americans reminds me how socially aware America is
Dude, America was literally built on human suffering.
Although at the time it was justified by claiming that the ones doing the suffering weren’t human because of their skin color or because they didn’t believe in the same imaginary friends.
It starts by treating people with respect from higher tiers of the government. That justifies the voices of reason who would stand up for those who cannot themselves stand.
It also needs propaganda. Not modern propaganda, but actual propaganda.
Hence, “any movement or organization to propagate some practice or ideology” (1790). The modern political sense (“dissemination of information intended to promote a political point of view”) dates from World War I, originally not pejorative or implying bias or deliberate deception. Meaning “material or information propagated to advance a cause, etc.” is from 1929. Related: Propagandic. source
Propaganda exists whether intentional or not. It’s what drives culture, change, and resistance. It can be used to attack minorities. It can also be used to help minorities. In essence, propaganda is just a narrative which influences masses of people. At a different scale, you might call this a pep talk; large scale, it’s propaganda.
We could use propaganda which blasts some compassion into the minds of our countrymen.
We come back by getting rid of the right-wing propaganda web.
Everything from far-right internet/social media, Fox News and its bastard clones, talk radio. All of it needs to be scrubbed. Burn some sage in that fucking Fox News building before tearing it down.
I don’t think most of those people would be so awful if they weren’t propagandized to do so 24/7 like the North Koreans. I mean christ, Rush Limbaugh was teaching people to hate the Clintons’ teenaged kid daughter back in the 90s. They’ve been at this shit a long time.
Every other ad I see is for Jordan Peterson’s weird little propaganda university. I think it’s different from Praeger U, but I don’t watch long enough to know. People are signing up to pay their hard earned, vanishingly valuable dollars to watch right wing propaganda videos. They hunger for it.
I mean, it’s been here since day 1. It never went anywhere, and it probably never will. But it can be beaten down and drowned and muzzled, relegated to the background noise, at least for a time. And things can get better for that time.
Really don’t think so in the age of hyper-reality. It’s too insulating, touching grass doesn’t actually cure anyone’s racism or antisociality.
Outside of the US, someone like Mamdani would be considered “center-left”.
Ideological puritans threw the election to Donald Trump, tbh an actual ape that eats 2 actual infants per day would still get my vote if it meant keeping a Republican out of office.
Its kind of exemplary of the post when ‘Can we not support literal genocide’ is some kind of excessively puritanical ask though.
The post says no such thing, but it’s also a difference of opinion that politicians like Biden ever supported a genocide to begin with. Under Biden aid got in, often through extreme efforts like air drops and mobile piers. Weapons shipments got withheld from Israel. Under Trump all of that changed.
And Harris, as VP, was pushing for the investigation required to bypass the law saying we had to fund Israel.
Trump said he wanted to glass (nuke) Gaza.
But yeah, both options were exactly the same, apparently.
In 2024, Trump met with the Palestinian imams who the DNC snubbed and said there needed to be a ceasefire in Gaza. This is a big part of why Trump carried Michigan. I doubt Trump convinced many Muslim Americans and their friends to vote for him, but it appears he successfully convinced enough of them not to vote for Biden/Harris.
I’m not saying this makes Trump better on this issue than Biden, because Trump was obviously lying. I am saying Trump read the room better and “did politics” better, because Biden/Harris wouldn’t even tell that lie.
Personally, I held my nose and voted for Harris, but there’s no doubt in my mind that she lost because she and Biden were out of touch on Palestine.
Kamala Harris was endorsed by a US and international coalition of 25 Muslim faith leaders, condemned Netanyahu in a press conference immediately after meeting with him. LINK to Document She frequently met with refugees and doctors from Gaza and promoted their stories.
Every asshole who endorsed Trump under that pretense is demonstrably a dumbass and a fool. Pete Hegseth’s official statement on Palestine is “Death or Exodus”. Trump bragged about delivering those halted weapon shipments.

Netanyahu clearly favored Trump during the election. Trump’s past statements included using nuclear weapons on the middle east, killing the families and relatives of terrorists. And you’re right to say it worked, over 6 Million stupid assholes who voted for Biden in 2020 stayed home in 2024.
Because multiple billionaires and foreign powers all operates disinformation networks like FaceBook, Twitter, and TikTok to promote Trump and shame Biden.
