    It’s called indoctrination for a reason…

But even most Marines break out of it before their first contract is up

When I started working out, I trained until I could easily pass the Marine fitness test. It actually wasn’t that challenging 🫤

In a vacuum, no not really. But boot camp is more than just the physical fitness test, you’re also being trained how to disassemble/reassemble guns, instructed on the basics of how to function/behave in the military, memorizing rules of engagement/the Geneva Convention, getting tear gassed just to learn what it feels like, in some cases learning how to swim because they never had the opportunity in real life, getting yelled at nonstop by drill instructors, getting hazed in the middle of the night by people a rank or two higher than you or the same rank but just a year or two older, etc. All while experiencing (for most recruits) would be their first REAL time away from home, first time dealing with sleep deprivation, I won’t go so far as to say they’re malnourished in any sense, but the food is definitely not what 99% of them are used to and comfortable with, etc etc etc.

Point is, yeah, even though I’m not trying to take away any accomplishments from you (or them), the physical fitness test on its own really isn’t that tough. What’s tough is doing ALLLLL the shit I listed above (and so much more) while still maintaining composure, discipline, and being able to operate highly complicated and demanding tasks often when at the limits of your mental capacity. All of this is, to no one’s surprise, a skill that becomes extremely useful in combat and THAT’S what they’re trying to build you to be; not a gym bro or bodybuilder (again, no disrespect or anything, I’m just pointing out the different goals in mind)
