Lilo and Stitch. It’s just a perfect story, great style, and just an all around good time. Who didn’t love something cute and fluffy?
Adventure Time. Great adventure, basically a show that animated what my imagination felt like as a kid. I’ll get to play a DnD game set in Ooo one day (actually want to use Wyrmwood Wand but that’ll be even less likely).
Angels Egg or Neon Genesis Evangelion. I basically marathoned them back to back in college. Everyone needs to watch something that leaves them going “wtf” at least once in their life.

Adventure time was my favorite pretty much the whole time it was running. Phenomenal show.
Nausicaä was on HBO when I was a kid and dad taped it for me. It’ll probably always be my favorite.

It is! Or rather, on the world and character of the game, but not really the game itself I guess, from what I can gather 😅 tbh I think it’s an advantage to not be familiar with the game, because that way I wasn’t able to foresee some of the twists and character developments that are quite obvious to someone who knows these characters. Definitely check it out, both the animation and the writing are absolutely top-notch! Just, uh, have tissues ready

Macross Plus
You were supposed to say why! Since you didn’t, here are some big positives
- Soundtrack absolutely slaps. I still regularly listen to the two OSTs, they are by Yoko Kanno who is a prolific anime composer but there’s just something about these scores that’s so good
- Budget was obviously big so some of the visuals are generally awesome. Ok it wasn’t quite Akira levels but for a mini series it has some really great animation
- The plot is maybe a little cheesy but it’s weirdly relevant now, a classic AI gone rogue story with some interesting character heroes who need to defeat it
- This will sound silly but it’s the first time I saw wireless headphones in anything and then 20 years later ish we had them haha

Yes my all time favorite. Howl’s Moving Castle is my close second.
As an animation lover, just for purely the animation itself, I personally love just about any Ghibli film ( minus Earwig and the Witch, the 3D animated Ghibli movie, for just the animation ). I cannot think of any prettier looking animation, besides maybe the odd few scenes from a movie like The Ice Queen ( the Eastern block one ) or something in this hauntingly beautiful style. Though, I think atmosphere/story have more to play into that than not.
Otherwise, for story, I still absolutely LOVE especially the early seasons of Franklin ( that 90s preschool cartoon ). Partially due to nostalgia, being a furry, and being autistic, I find a lot of calm in watching that show. It’s basically my Bluey. It really is a show that helps me get a little more relaxed while snuggled up with my favorite stuffed animal. Especially my favorite episode: Franklin Goes To School.
I have a lot of favorites for a lot of different categories, but I don’t wanna spend an hour listing a bunch of stuff, so I’m gonna end my comment here.

Very cool short, the visual style reminds me somewhat of Fantastic Planet, although the content couldn’t be more Russian.

I never watched Franklin growing up, i’ll take a peek at the go to school episode.
Your comment made me realize I am wrong. I was thinking Snow Queen and not Ice Queen. Craziest thing is I could have easily looked to the right of my desk and easily facy checked myself by looking at the DVD copy I have. I was thinking the 50s Soviet hand drawn movie.
The Earwig movie isn’t really bad from an animation standpoint, but it is just so departed from Ghibli style animation that it feels a little too off putting for me, despite the story being fine.
With Franklin, it obviously isn’t super deep considering the target audience. I just happen to really like that episode because, even as a college student, I feel it’s relatable to me. The feeling of unwarranted worry Franklin feels his first ever day of courses is kinda how I feel my first day of classes, even if I don’t show it. Though it’s nowhere near as bad as portrayed by Franklin.
Snow queen, I think I found it, 1957, but I don’t think I’ve seen that either. Sounds good, even just the poster looks very interesting artistically.

Song of the Sea. I just love the duality of the fantasy. That each of the mythical beings are all people from the main character’s life such that the movie could just as well be about a young boy coming to terms with the death of his mother as it could be a real dive into celtic mythology.
Yea love this, I got to see the Secret of Kells in Theater and actually see the Book of Kells at Trinity College in Ireland, but haven’t seen wolfwalkers yet.
As fantastic as Song of the Sea and The Secret of Kells are, Wolfwalkers is my favourite of the three. Do yourself a favour and go see it.
Done amd done, I generally, we watched the Secret of Kells every couple of years, so I’m due for that style of animation and mythtelling anyway.
I just stumbled across that film and watched it on a whim.

My favourite answer is always The 2008 clone wars .
This legend of a production was commissioned to bridge the gap between the episode 2 and episode 3 star wars movies.
George signed up none other than Genndy Tartakovsky (samurai Jack) to create it. And it’s legendary.
The annoying part is the film is no longer considered cannon by Disney in an official manner as the cgi kids version replaced it.
I also love the 2008 clone wars, I hadn’t realized it was no longer officially canon. Good pick, though.
Genndy’s another level, I was so excited upon hearing about Primal and couldn’t be more satisfied with how the show is developing.
There are a lot of good options, but Akira is near the top
I re-watched that recently with my kids (now at more or less the same age I was when I watched it for the first time) just waiting for the bit where Tetsuo goes super extra… bleagh.
One said “that’s the most disgusting thing I’ve ever seen”.

Yea what a classic, although I read the manga first, so I think I’m still partial to the comic. Some of the panels I can linger on.
In terms of the animation it would just have to be another Ghibli film, they simply look the best. Whisper of the Heart and When Marnie was there stand out in my mind as the most beautiful ones
In terms of everything together, I’ll actually say the series Spectacular Spiderman. The art style is incredibly basic, which is what makes it so good. The whole series is wonderful precisely because of how much they did with so little. It’s a perfect TV series. So naturally they cancelled it prematurely.
Honourable mention to L’Roi et L’Oiseau, which just holds an important place in my heart and was one of the first movies I ever watched.
There are so many spider-man forms of media that I’m unfamiliar with most of them. I’ll definitely check out spectacular. Thanks.

I feel like I may have seen that at some point, I’m putting it on my watchlist to check.
I don’t know that I could ever choose between classic cartoons, or movies like Bedknobs and Broomsticks, or things like Wallace and Gromit. It will probably always depend on my current mood and what I have seen more recently.
