This is Trump saying that your vote actually does matter. Act accordingly, don’t fall for the useful idiots on here telling you otherwise.

First they came for the trans and I did nothing. Then they came for Bessent…

Does Bessent, the “genius” investor that took his startup money from Soros, a “dumocrat” not realize that the MAGA cult he claims to love and support think he is an abomination?

Hopefully he finds out soon, but he’s a piece of shit so I don’t mind if he dies, painfully.

He is pandering to his Christo-fascist base.

And yeah, he seems to prioritize that because it encompasses WAY TOO MANY PEOPLE… and those people are stupid af and programmed to follow their designated authority, unfortunately.

“Yes! Culture war! That’s the priority right now! Look at all those made up enemies we need to fight! Nobody pay attention to the widespread corruption, collapsing standards of living, disastrous foreign policy, open treason with the enemy, stupid wars being declared for no good reason, dismantlement of checks and balances, blatantly illegal actions, complete disregard for the constitution, widespread anti-democratic practices, borderline revolting military, oh yeah and the Epstein files”

It’s not really a culture war if they’re planning to kill all the trans people.

It’s what his base responds to. He’s going to promise the worst of things that appeal to the worst parts of his supporting base to save the midterms.

You can connect those dots back a little further, if you try.

          “Okay smart guy, so Nixon?”

          Yes, but…

“Ah, you’re about to mention the southern strategy.”

          Which happened because?

“Alright, but it’s pretty tenuous to attribute the modern rise of fascism to failed reconstruction!”

I wasn’t. I was going to attribute it to the existence of slavery in America. The seeds of this destruction were already planted at the beginning.

(Sorry for this writing style, it started as a joke and I couldn’t make it properly funny while also making my point.)

The Republicans think so. So, they have people on social media — I’ve even seen them on Lemmy — trying to convince everyone that the Democrats are no better, so they may as well stay home.

Also, more Americans sit out midterms anyway, when the presidency isn’t up for a vote, but the Republicans are extra worried this year and have been out in force.

          Waste their money.

I’m sure lore will come out. And probably MAGA is losing some small numbers. But are those margins enough to overcome the purging of voter rolls and other literal election fraud? I hope so.

I don’t expect more to come out. Election after election, Americans don’t go to the polls. You don’t need electoral gambits. You just need good, ol’ old-timey American sloth.

In the past half century the average percent voting at midterms has been 40% VEP or so. It’s been as low as about 35% (2014) and it’s been as high as about 50% (2018), but over all, year after year, it dials in to about 40%. And for presidential elections it’s been about 58% over the same rough time period, again with some variation here and there, but not by enough to make any meaningful difference.

I see no reason to think that this one will be any different. I would very much like to be surprised and see turnouts in the 80+% VEP range, but I won’t. I’ll be very surprised if this one exceeds 60%. Or even 50%.

Sloth is too powerful a force.

In 2016, he was the only one talking about jobs, in 2024, he was correctly acknowledging that things hadn’t improved under Biden. Culture War bullshit is always going to be secondary to paying rent.

The republicans don’t actually want to help the working class, but creating a lie that explains what you’re experiencing is infinitely more effective than denying the material reality for nearly all americans and telling us better things aren’t possible.

I…guess? I mean, your hypothetical kinda doesn’t make sense is all. I mean, every single announcement outta this illegitimate administration flat out contradicts reality, and obviously they’ve convinced people better things aren’t possible - until you get rid of the undesirables, of course.

So not really sure what you’re trying to say here…

This admin’s popularity is in the gutter and they will lose both the midterms and next election.

But if another Biden wins in 2028, maintaining Trump’s policies while pretending to be powerless to help the people who voted for him, it guarantees they get knocked out in the midterms and then Trump jr or kegsbreath or some other fascist ghoul wins in 2032.

they’ve convinced people better things aren’t possible - until you get rid of the undesirables, of course.

Correct, thats not a good story, but it matches his base’s expectations. It appeals to racists more than “better things aren’t possible because the scotus, the parliamentarian, John fetterman, the AG just needs time to button everything up” or whatever horse shit the dems feed their base and expect to be reelected.
