I am a big fan of Tesla. The cars are amazing. Generally I respect Elon, who has a track record of success. I support unions but I would never join one.

I think this is the best quote from the article.

“I don’t know, maybe they will unionize,” he mused. “If Tesla gets unionized it will be because we deserved it, and because we failed in some way.”

Elon has made many employees rich. If they unionize, they jeopardize the benefits that made them rich. I can’t see the company agreeing to be as generous when dealing with a union.

I have to ponder why he thinks everyone should be pro-union. In a union I wouldn’t be able to negotiate my wage, my bonus, my vacation or a plethora of other things that I can do now. I would be stuck adhering to union rules and procedures as well.

I get for some people who don’t have real jobs skills, a union would sound attractive but for someone with a high-demand skill set, I see it as limiting.

I admit I am highly educated, trained and good at what I do. If I look at what my coworkers are paid, on average, I make double what they make. Most of my peers are around 180 full packages. I am around 400K full package. WTF would I want to be in a union and make half of what I make? I can also dictate my hours, what I will or won’t do, etc. All things I wouldn’t be able to in a union.

At my last job, I worked from 9-11 and then from 1-4. Those were the hours I was available when i wasn’t traveling. A union would never put up with that crap.
