Hello! New here on Lemmy. Pardon me if this has been brought up but I couldn’t find a result on my search. Anyway, I have Cable Internet right now. Later this year, when Fiber becomes available, I will subscribe to the FiOS service while maintaining the Cable Internet for a few weeks just to make sure that the FiOS service is right for my use case. At the outside entry point, there is only one Coax cable going into the where the cable modem is inside the networking closet. There is no Ethernet connection from the outside (DMarc?) of the house to the networking closet in the house. Question: can I use MoCA splitter on both sides to accomodate both services? Does anyone have experience on using MoCA splitters to bring two different kinds of service into one Coax cable into the networking closet? Thanks in advance.

I’m not sure how FiOS specifically does it, but generally fiber is not going to use existing coax. They will install a new box on the house for the fiber and have to bring a new line into the house for ethernet. The router will then plug directly into the new ethernet port.
Sorry, I mis-represented my case! From my light research, MoCA is a device that enables ethernet to go through a coaxial cable. There will be a MoCA on the outside to convert ethernet to coax and in the inside another MoCA to convert the coax to ethernet.
Well, when the fiber is installed they are going to be installing a box for the fiber to run into, then will be installing an ethernet connection inside of your house. That is just part of the standard installation for fiber. So I guess I’m just not understanding why you are trying to force the connection into coax.
If you are trying to avoid having a line run into your house you will need to talk with the installer to figure out what your options are.
Yes. The ONT will be outside the house. But, I need the Fiber-to-ethernet media converter there, too! Then a MoCA adapter so that I can use the coax cable from my former Direct TV service to bring the Internet inside the house, then, inside the house will be another MoCA adapter to convert the coax to ethernet to my router! This is my plan because there is no way I can bring fiber into the house. My network closet is in the opposite side of the house from where the ONT will installed.
Then you should definitely talk to the installer prior to signing up. That is definitely not a standard install, and I’m not sure they would have any way to weather proof an install like that.
I don’t have an answer for whether your MoCA plan will work since that isn’t hardware I’ve worked with. Sorry I can’t be more help.
