Everyone loves socialism, until they hear it called socialism.
I remember talking with a co-worker who was saying he would never support socialism. I asked him if he believed in public health care and he said yes, then the same with public schools for his kids, public libraries, parks, our labour union!, and the public transit company that we worked for, and he supported them all but still hated socialism.
I don’t just don’t know how people can thing that all of these things are good and important and still not see that they are socialist programs even when it is pointed out to them.
American society and media propagandize a lot against socialism. He has just heard it’s bad so many times he believes it without knowing why.
It’s like people believing god is good because they never read the bible. How many Christians know that the law of god condones slavery, and allow beating slaves to death, as long as they don’t die the same day. 🤡Maybe your co-worker knew that socialism ain’t the same thing as social welfare programs and instead a socioeconomic system where the economy is controlled by the working class, not the capitalists. And then maybe your co-worker was a class traitor for understanding that and still disliking it.

No, that’s too many maybes, they probably are just propagandized.
We all understand that ALL of our problems are outgrowths of nearly uncontrolled Capitalism, which has led to America being in last place among industrialized nations in almost every metric.
Then we look at Scandinavian nations, where everyone is happy and good looking, and see that they live under Democratic Socialism, which puts those countries at the front of the pack in nearly all metrics.
The shock isn’t that 40% have accepted that Democratic Socialism is obviously a better choice, it’s that it isn’t 90%.
It’s astonishing the number of Americans I’ve debated that claim they prefer their higher wage, despite when the bills are paid, they don’t have more. And they have far from the same quality of public services and benefits, and they live in a society of violence and uncertainty.
Also being paid more is exclusively a privilege of about a 10% minority, so chances are most Americans that make this claim, would actually be paid more here in Denmark.
Americans think they have more freedom, but most Americans that move here, find out that in reality they have way more freedom in a Scandinavian country. Freedom in USA is to a large degree a myth. And the propaganda of it is mostly when compared to the Soviet Union.We have a saying about avoiding American Conditions, or it’s like in America, meaning it’s very bad. American society is far from the golden standard many Americans are indoctrinated to believe. On the contrary USA serves as a warning about what to avoid as a society.
Also, it’s funny to think that a term like socialism, which has been demonized and lied about for decades, is polling above donnie.
Wait until people see how Americans have polled on the issues…for decades.
I have to say I’m shocked that such a loaded term polls above 10%, honestly.
For decades, terms like atheism, liberalism, and socialism have been talked about as if they were adjacent to being a pedophile.
I mean, look at where capitalism has gotten us and it starts to make sense why.
[Obviously good thing] is SOCIALIST!
They’ve been selling it pretty hard.
People are struggling too much.
