Religion is an excuse to kill is older than the Bible. Sometimes I wonder if that’s all it’s really for.

There’s some actual devout religious Christians doing good charity work and then there’s the Trumps of the world.

Everything can be abused. If it wasn’t religion they’d use something else.

I mean specifically targeting jews is not motivated by religion, is it?

Right wing yankistanis always say they don’t mind “legal” immigrants, but don’t give a shit when citizens and legal migrants die in ICE raids, protests and concentration camps.

People and media can chuck it up and hide the bigotry as “nationalism”, but it’s really not, is it?

You’re saying it’s not nationalism but instead religious? In Germany they targeted anyone who’s not Aryan

Religion is a creation of proto-nations or proto-states as a tool to enforce social-order. Religion might not lead to wars, but as a state raises or diverts tax-funds towards war efforts the state’s religion will likewise be shaped. That’s to say religion is related to wars as much as taxes are, which is a lot, but what the state employs those mechanisms for is more a reflection of the state’s will than the actual mechanism.

Religion is critical to any political body attempting to form larger bodies, such as a state or nation. It seems to be a necessary foundation from which superstructures can then be built atop of. It’s why you’ll see ‘terrorism’ intrinsically linked to a religion. It’s an efficient, primitive tool of social-control.

I think it’s accurate to say that taxation and religion had been historically intertwined. The modern state no longer requires the church to collect taxes on their behalf, which has lowered the social standing of those associated with churches, but they’re still an efficient structure for large-scale social-control. They can direct their follower’s focus to particular candidates and democratic systems of governance are always at risk of being hijacked by organized religions. (I think the Chinese are correct to have a watchful eye on it and to disrupt those cults that get too big. The aim of large cults is political-control and that threatens any governing body whether it be democratically elected or not.)

In Australia our most degenerative politicians have come from the church. My understanding is that Trump’s political-base of support comes from America’s religious-institutions too. Religious-institutions are still effective social-control tools. Non-religious social-control tools were media–newspapers, books, radio- and television-broadcasts. The Nazi’s used these then new (radio and television) mediums very effectively.

Computers are now being used to engineer social-order and they seem to be more effective than either traditional-media or religion.

“With or without religion, good people can behave well and bad people can do evil; but for good people to do evil - that takes religion.”

I see Christians being in charge of the largest military in the world, give sermons to military officers about the end times, then drop bombs on schools in Iran.

Bro has never heard of colonialism. Spaniards would literally march in with a giant cross and a painting of the virgin marry before they burned down your home and fed you to their dogs.
