The Sturmtiger (Sturmmörserwagen 606/4 mit 38 cm RW 61) was a German World War II heavy assault gun built on modified Tiger I chassis, recycled from battle-damaged tanks. Designed specifically for urban warfare, its primary task was to provide devastating fire support for infantry by destroying heavily fortified buildings, bunkers, and strongpoints.
Its defining feature was the 380mm rocket-propelled mortar, a weapon originally adapted from a German Navy anti-submarine depth-charge launcher. The firepower was immense. a single rocket carried enough explosives to completely level an entire building in one hit. However, operating this monster was an operational nightmare.
Due to the huge size and weight of the ammunition, the vehicle could only carry 14 rounds inside. Reloading was extremely slow and required a built-in crane mounted on the rear of the superstructure to load the heavy rockets. Because of severe resource shortages and its highly specialized role, only 18 Sturmtigers were ever built. Despite their tiny numbers,
these rare vehicles saw combat in major late-war operations, including the Warsaw Uprising, the Battle of the Bulge, and the Battle of the Reichswald
