No shit. You make PCs at lower specs at a higher price for the consumer, this is what you get.

Long-term, this is what the tech industry wants. Sell the best hardware to data centers and force consumers to rely on cloud compute via a subscription model.

    It’s bleak.

Because people can’t afford them. Even the Scam Artists running the “Boom” industry of AI/BS can’t afford their hardware. Nvidia are literally loaning them the hardware and using accounting tricks to create the illusion of wealth generation.

When the bubble bursts, this will all collapse and any investment in products being marketed as “AI” will evaporate. Meanwhile, investment in actually people will pay significant dividends.

    You can afford to:

    • Pay 3x more for food
    • Pay 3x more for transportation
    • Pay 3x more for entertainment

    Pick two

Because it’s a choice between paying my mortgage and a gaming PC. It’s not really a hard choice. I’ve got a steam deck anyway, and while it’s true that it’s got the graphical processing capacity of a gnats testicle, it’s better than paying 40x the odd for some ram.

    as was designed.

they don’t want you to own your hardware.

they want an excuse to stop manufacturing hardware so they can replace it with cloud computing. why make $500 once when they can make $5000 a year from you until you die.
