He’s so close. If he just adjusted that number up 5x or 10x with the agreement we complain a lot less, he’d have a deal. Call it something like a basic income or something.

You know he doesn’t mean it. He’d never actually do it. I mean $8/day forever? He’d never pay.

He said $8 for a day not days, plus obviously the recipients would have to repay him for airfare and other miscellaneous expenses

An ‘allowance’ like that doesn’t always solve a homeless situation. Some folks have mental or physical health issues that force them into homelessness. Or they are in a domestic violence situation, where it might be safer to change your location every few days.

Billionaires are so obscenely out of touch with the reality that vulnerable populations exist in

Financial obesity is neurotoxic, an existential threat to any society that tolerates it, and needs to cease being celebrated, rewarded, and positioned as an aspirational goal.

Corporations are the only ‘persons’ which should be subjected to capital punishment, but trillionaires should be forced to transition into billionaires, and billionaires should be euthanised through taxation.

Why wait? Punch the rich now! You can go outside right now and deck the first rich person you see! Then just continue! Fun for the whole family and community! Only 1% of people hate this game!

The capitalist doesn’t understand how capitalism works, go figure. The moment everyone is 8$ a day richer, everything will get 7$ a day more expensive. You’ll create a racket where you’re paying poor people to be exploited by rich people. When the money stops coming the rich will pack up and leave, leaving the poor people back at square one.

Not quite, the Uganda thing aside this is basically universal basic income and according to pilot programs it works. The catch here is that 8 dollars are the same whether you give them to someone who has 1 dollar or someone who has 1000 dollars, so you’ve effectively redistributed wealth from the richer person to the poorer person.

All that works if nothing changes. These pilot programs are small and don’t get the large scale effects right that might appear in such a system. We absolutely need to kill capitalism dead before everyone can UBI

Marx argued that UBI is capitalism “decked out in socialism” against Henry George. When capitalism is dead, there will be no need for UBI.

In the meantime, we ought to repeat these successful experiments at a larger scale. Any inflationary pressure from UBI might be counterbalanced by deflationary pressure from its taxes. Landlords don’t absorb the whole UBI because elasticity is a thing.
