iirc google don’t sell data, they only buy it. which makes sense considering they run their own advertising network. why would they help other networks? and they’re already embedded at some point into everyone’s lives, wether iphone, android, Google search engine or not. as for the government getting the data: google legally have to comply with information requests or gag requests from the USA government, as that’s where their datacentres are mostly based as well as their company itself.

Just because it’s legal doesn’t make it better. Slavery used to be legal

And sure, they don’t directly sell the user data but they’ll use it in any way possible for their ad customers to target and profit off of you

doesn’t make sense for them to sell data though. they’re such a big company with so many competitors in literally any space. why would they bother selling it when they can just buy it, hoard it to make their own network stronger?

                they make enough money

You’re expecting a private company to stop at “enough”?

selling it would actually end up LOSING them profit as that money would go to other advertising agencies.

                They do both.

They literally don’t. I don’t know why you feel the need to infer some super secret financial transactions. The article is talking about “above-board” financial transactions on ad data marketplaces. Any data transferred to the US government is using their other programs which probably are more convoluted than just handing over money.
