If the US is trying to fall back to the sanctions strategy and quietly pry the Strait out of their grip by slipping tankers then they may have accepted that they cannot defeat Iran militarily. UAE wanted to stop getting hit by Iran, maybe UAE got a promise to stop escalation against Iran in exchange for halting asset transfers
