I’m genuinely surprised, eat my hat, and sorry for being wrong.

I wasn’t making a statement one way or another. I was just curious as to how true or false that was.

I’d say you’re in the realm of reasonable. 38% turnout is pretty pathetic. So is 55%.

If we’re not pushing 85% or more, something is wrong.

Thanks because I wanted to say that kind of because it should be like 90-100% ideally, yanno? but I also feel like I might have sounded really racist and don’t want to like seem like I’m just changing goal posts or trying to continue being just a jerk.

That and imagine the political power they suddenly have if they do start to turn out at 85% while whites are still sitting at 55%.

Georgia is 33% black, 57% white.

          Georgia’s population is 11.3 million, 77.8% 18 and older is 8.79m.

At the rates in that chart that would be 1.07m black voters, 2.5m white.

85% black turnout would put them at 2.47m votes.

Maybe this year will be the year to turn out. I hope.

You’re a good person, you know. Based solely on this thread, I can see that. 🫶

Do you know why we’re not pushing that percentage? People need to work. Sometimes two jobs, especially somewhere like Mississippi where the minimum wage is still $7.25. People can’t take a day off. Last time I voted in Mississippi, I was in line for 2 hours, and that was at like 11am because I was lucky to have a desk job that let me work from home and understood the importance of voting. Minimum wage jobs do not get that.

So glad I live in Washington state now where everyone gets their ballot mailed to them 2 weeks in advance. For general elections, we’re about 70-80% turnout.

I think preventing police from killing your children justifies missing two hours of work. Especially if it would cause a grand total of $14.50 gross income loss. Or fight to have elections on Sundays, like 80%+ of democracies do.

But I’ve spent some time close to France, so it might be their influence.

But if missing two hours of work causes you to lose your minimum wage job, then it’s not just a $14.50 loss.

I would say something like “Hope you never get put into a situation where you can’t financially recover”, but you give off strong vibes of someone that’s been handed everything in life and armchair coaches.
