[CW: Sarcastic comments about self harm]

FUUUUCK OOOOFF

I’m sorry? Does getting into debt so I can PAY FOR MY OWN TRAINING FOR SEVERAL YEARS NOT FUCKING COUNT? Of fucking course not.

Oh let me guess, all the extra things I need to do to “prove I’m worthy” to our almighty employers is all stuff that is near impossible for me as a permanently exhausted neurodivergent person with no money?

Will I guess it’s my fault for being born poor and given a slew of traumas as a child. How dare I want to pursue something I’m interested in and good at? What a fair, free and just society! I guess I should just burn myself out completely for chump change or die quietly in the corner.

I’m tired of hearing about employers “Not wanting to risk training employees only to lose them” when hardly any employers even do real training anymore, and no one talks about the risk employees take into going into debt for a degree. Getting a degree is already hard as it is and I don’t even know if I’ll ever get a return on that, so why should I have to be a super human for an employer to even consider me? Where’s their effort?

Oh right, because this is capitalism and employers have the power, not me.

“Do you know someone who works here already? No? Sorry we decided to go with Jerry’s cousin’s ex because they can be vouched for even though they’ve never worked in this industry and lack every qualification. Have you tried networking? We’ll keep your resume on file in case you manage to make some connections with one of the wfh employees who we’re planning to lay off next quarter anyway.”

NONONO it’s the employees faults for not hussle grinding enough! Sure, you have a medical degree, but do you own your own business? Have you been to France? Sorry, if you’ve never met my friend Jim at his fancy nightclub then you just aren’t putting yourself out there, I don’t think you’re right for this radiology position!

So much “no Poor’s allowed” shit like that to weed out the commoners. And if you complain about how classist it all is than they just say “Oh I started out poor too, I had to give up caviar!”

      AAAAAAAAAA

It pisses me off so much. Like because I’m poor I shouldn’t want an education

“How stupid are you for getting into debt, poors like you should stay in their lane and flip burgers forever”

Student loans shouldn’t exist in the first place, but they should at least be 0% interest, tax deductible, forgiven after a certain period, something…

The fact people are punished for trying to get an education is insulting.

But you could go into the traaaades! I (Mike Rowe) know a kid who works as a welder living out of a van and he’s going to be a millionaire (with a bad back and bad knees) by the time he’s 35!

Isn’t capitalism amazing? Every part of the economy wants people with experience but also no person responsible for that part of the economy is interested in training people and giving them experience.
Same with other stuff like housing and healthcare - every capitalist wants healthy workers who already have housing, but none of them want to provide any of that.

hardly any employers even do real training anymore,

Haven’t had a single employer do any training up front, in years. Just been dropped into things, maybe 30 minutes of basics, and a “let me know if you have any questions”.

I’m tired of hearing about employers “Not wanting to risk training employees only to lose them”

I THOUGHT I WAS GOING CRAZY AND IT WAS JUST ME BEING A FAILURE.

    I fucking hate this system.

  • i hate the hustle grind toxicity of all that shit. understanding the underlying material reality (the boss needs you to make more profit) only makes their “game” more insulting, since they have to neg potential hires and make them feel small, or make them feel like the hiring boss is doing them a favor by connecting them with a job. so, the individual/non-collective way to fight back is to make oneself seem like the head-and-shoulders-above candidate that will be maximally exploitable. the one who trains fast/easy and won’t cause problems. basically, the idiot-savant who can do-the-thing like a wizard, but is too big-picture dim to see the value proposition of doing it for someone else.
