I fully support national service. Considering many countries use conscription that the left wants to emulate. It only makes sense.

We should go back to conscription like the good old days.

Oof, why? That’s pretty much the opposite of limited government, no? When the government gets to actively dictate what you do?

When our country was prospering for almost everyone. We did it. It was a way to build the love of our country and train jobs skills.

The Draft sparked protests that involved burning the American flag.

I think in WW2 what sparked love of the country was being in the trenches and fighting against other well-equipped armies. Japan and Germany were serious enemies that could only be overcome through the deepest coordination between fellow soldiers, which by necessity meant love.

The Viet Cong were guerrillas striking without clear battle lines, using women and children as bomb carriers. They didn’t threaten our homeland.

Being drafted to fight in Vietnam was enough to spark protests that involved burning the American flag, and civilian massacres in the US.

It wasn’t the draft that people protested. It was the war in Vietnam. People didn’t want to go fight a war that didn’t make sense to them.
