The EU likes to frame being critical of it as being anti progress, but this right here is one of the reasons many leftists are critical of it, too.

I know nobody alive today is responsible for colonialism, but we need to remember that the reason we’re wealthy is that our ancestors made these people poor and unsafe. There’s a responsibility to do better that comes with that fact.
