And they even like woke games. Baulders Gate 3 by and large is a huge success and thats one of the wokest games released in recent memory.
Black Myth Wukong would meet our western criteria of DEI. A game based on Chinese folklore with no white men present? That is absolutely diversity in gaming and it still got high accolades.
What they hate is when characters are gay just to have a gay character in the cast that remind you they are gay in each dialog option, but that doesn’t happen very often and a story that has to do that is already lackluster and will stick out more. The new Dragon Age comes to mind with its odd dialogue, which still has positive reviews on steam but doesn’t seem to have sold the number of copies they are used to.
The announcement for Intergalactic: The heretic has a really cool aesthetic, but it had a ton of product placement. A Porsche branded ship with a Sony sound system. You can already predict the story will be lukewarm because their story will be nitpicked by the advertisement agents to make sure their brand is “safe”.
