    Yes, it’s dismissive.

    And sometimes that’s appropriate.

    Though sometimes it’s annoying as hell.

    It’s really annoying when someone tries to get super philosophical but has the shallowest take. On the other hand, not everyone has taken philosophy courses and what I consider “Descartes 101” may actually be something new and eye opening to them so dismissing them would make me the pretentious gatekeeper.

    Anyways, I mostly agree with you. Like Scrubbles said, there are some that truly deserve it.

    Personally I use it when someone jumps into a conversation headfirst full of psychobabble or obviously really trying to come off as deep. I’ll agree it’s used stop much, but man some people really deserve it too
